As both of these will cause damage, the salt-water one is usually the worst because the salt content will do damage not only to your furniture but will also set into the wiring in your home causing it to corrode over time so that you will need to rewire your home.
The salt in the flooding waters of the oceans will eat or corrode the other electrical equipment, such as your well pumps, air conditioning system, and pool pumps. If this should happen, then you will have to replace them. As this can take time for this to show, in all cases the wiring has to be replaced. It might not have to be done at the time, but you will have to do it down the road so most of the time it is better to have it done so that the insurance will help with the repairs. If you wait, your insurance company might fight you about having to pay for it to be done later.
If you have old phone lines that are still underground and they go to build a new home next door or even on the next street, the rain water can seep into the ground down where the wires are and cause them to become ruined if these lines haven't been covered. They will have to be replaced so that is why the phone company started putting heavily insulated phone lines in the ground. Before the lines were on tall poles that crossed everywhere. Then they started to remove these poles to put the lines underground, and at first they weren't very well protected from the elements of Mother Nature so they had to be changed out ever few years.
If you have heavy flood waters in your area, you will see the companies out making sure that these wires are safe and that no damage has fallen on them. With them over and above ground, these will suffer a lot of damage every time they get wet so that was another reason why they were put underground. If you live in a area that is close to the ocean, you will see the damages of salt water damage more often because the salt will leave a white residue, which is really just the salt that is in the water. The more this salt is left on your walls and concrete, the whiter it will appear.
